The Story Behind Babiators
How it started
The idea for Babiators was born on a military base in Beaufort, SC with 2 couples that were best friends; Molly & Ted Fienning and Carolyn & Matthew Guard. It all started when Molly saw her fellow military wives’ kids squinting in the sun while their pilot Moms and Dads stood protected and stylish in their aviator sunglasses. Molly shared her idea for safe, stylish, and durable kids’ sunglasses with her aviator husband Ted, who said, “Let’s make them, and call them Babiators!”
“We wondered if we were onto something when Sarah Jessica Parker’s, Khloe Kardashian’s, Hilary Duff’s and Jennifer Garner’s children (and other Hollywood children) were all spotted in our shades. Then, Ellen Degeneres selected them as part of her Mother’s Day Giveaway episode. A surreal moment!"
- Molly, Co Founder of Babiators
The idea of creating high-quality, affordable, safe, durable and stylish products that let kids be kids and be protected soon became a reality. The company launched in 2011 with Carolyn and Molly working from their kitchen tables. Today, Babiators are a proud woman- and veteran-owned brand that parents all around the world love, and has been named one of Forbes’ 100 Most Promising Companies.
