How to care for your mattress
Your child will spend a lot of time on their mattress as they snooze. We all know there will be those inevitable accidents and spills that their mattress will have to encounter, but it's important to keep their mattress as clean and healthy as possible to offer them the safest sleeping environment they can have.
So let's take a look at how you can keep it as good as new and in the best condition for as long as possible.
Mattress Protector
Whilst most baby mattresses come with a waterproof layer on the mattress, we do recommend still using a mattress protector for that extra protection against those inevitable little leaks in the night. This is then easier to remove and wash helping to keep your mattress in the best possible condition and protect it from any accidents. It’s recommended you change the cover on the mattress at least once or twice a week if possible, so it's a good idea to have a few spares.
Air the Mattress
Once you have your mattress it is important to look after it so it lasts as long as possible and stays in the best condition for your little one. With this in mind, we recommend airing your mattress a few time a week by removing all of the covers for a few hours until you need it next. This will allow any body moisture to evaporate out and keep it fresh.
Vacuum
Vacuuming isn't just for removing dust and dirt from the floor, it is also a great tool for removing dead skin and dust from your little one's mattress. Vacuum all down the sides, edges and over the main part of the mattress to keep it clean.
Spot Clean
If stains or marks do appear you can spot clean your mattress. Simply spray the stain with a baby safe product and dab with a clean cloth until the stain has disappeared. Be sure to allow time for the mattress to fully air dry before next use.
