Frequently Asked Questions
We've gone over all the different types of reusable nappies and things you should know before buying, but do you still have some questions or still a little confused? Don't worry, you're not alone! We’ve gathered some of the questions we get asked the most and answered them all for you. Take a look at our frequently asked questions to help...
How many nappies will I need?
This one completely depends on how often your baby needs changing and how frequently you plan to wash the nappies, on average we would recommend stocking up on around 15-25 reusable nappies. If you are starting slowly and introducing them gradually, you won’t need as many if you’re using them alongside disposable nappies.
Do I need to change my baby more often with reusables?
No. Change as you would a disposable. You will probably even find that you change your baby less. Cloth nappies are so absorbent and as long as there is no poop, you can get a fair while out of one nappy. You will get used to this as you go along and know when your little one needs changing.
Can I use them at night?
Yes! There are some nappies specific for night time which have increased absorbency, but to keep costs down you can simply put a booster in your everyday nappies for extra absorbency.
Can I do a mix of both reusable and disposable?
Absolutely! No one is saying that you have to go completely cold turkey and quit using disposable nappies straight away. It is ok to ease yourself gradually in to reusable nappies until you feel confident. Even using 1 reusable nappy a day will keep make a difference. We understand that when on the move parents may prefer disposable, or perhaps it may be easier for when your child is being cared for by relatives. For some a mixture of both works really well.
How do I know which style is best for me?
This one is a bit of trial and error. It is completely down to personal taste, lifestyle and routine to know which one would work best for you. Start by buying a few different types and testing them out. This will help you to try out a few different styles, brands and sorts of reusable nappies to see what works best for you and your little one. Then you can add to your stash as you feel more confident and as your budget allows.
What else will I need?
Once you are on a roll with your reusable nappies, you will have a better understanding of how they work and your washing schedule, so you can now buy the right amount of nappies to suit your routine. Make sure you have all the components you need; the correct amount of wraps, liners, boosters. We love starter kits as they include most of the elements you are going to need all in one bundle. We also recommend getting a nappy bucket, mesh bucket liner, leak proof wash bag for on the go, non-bio washing powder and reusable wipes.
